Trump considers allowing sanctuary cities, in order to accelerate 2020 bid

Politicians have begun announcing their bids for the 2020 presidential election and promoting themselves through various media outlets. President Trump will surely be keen on reelection. Pressure is growing within the administration on how to best poise Trump for reelection, causing a seemingly change in policy to drive votes and support of his 2020 bid.

Notable hot button issues undeniably include immigration policy. Trump’s stance on immigration has been well-understood for quite some time now. President Trump’s position on the subject-matter has always seen a wide range of opposition, even from Republicans within Trump’s own party, as evidenced recently with Senator Ted Cruz’s statements relating to sanctuary cities and border states such as Texas.

On April 15, President Trump said that the federal government would begin releasing undocumented immigrants into sanctuary cities. Trump tweeted: “Those Illegal Immigrants who can no longer be legally held (Congress must fix the laws and loopholes) will be, subject to Homeland Security, given to Sanctuary Cities and States!” Many pundits believe that Trump’s statement is a purely political ploy for the president targeting representatives of sanctuary cities, which are predominately Democrat districts. Put differently, Trump’s tweet can be read as a passive-aggressive statement aimed at sanctuary cities, which are often pro-Democrat.

Many politicians were quick to respond, pointing out that Trump’s statement does not push immigration policy in the direction it needs to be going. Three Democrats wrote a letter in response to the tweet. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, and House Homeland Security Chairman Bennie Thompson, directed their letter to Department of Homeland Security and the White House, requesting correspondence related to the proposal. “Not only does the Administration lack the legal authority to transfer detainees in this manner, it is shocking that the President and senior Administration officials are even considering manipulating release decisions for purely political reasons,” they wrote.

If you or a loved one has been targeted by or apprehended by U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) or have questions regarding Sanctuary Cities, do not hesitate to reach out to Ibrahim Law Office, an immigration law firm, to schedule a consultation for yourself or a loved one.

The results were disappointing. Micheal was able to find the lost documents. My wife got her permanent residency. He was always available for us during a stressful time. We would like to thank Michael for his knowledge, professionalism, and expertise. We would definitely recommend Michael for immigration services." -Farzad D.
