The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that non-citizen travelers will be allowed entry to the U.S. through a land border or ferry terminal. The update on restrictions allows non-essential travel — including tourism — to the United States and will take effect Monday, Nov. 8, 2021. Starting Monday, November 8, 2021, new requirements will go into effect for travelers entering the United States at land ports of entry and ferry terminals. Travelers must be fully vaccinated and present proof of COVID-19 vaccination status. According to the DHS, “unvaccinated travelers may continue to cross the border for essential travel, including lawful trade, emergency response, and public health purposes.” This announcement brings discussion and tension as the the United States Government determines their stance on the vaccine, within global legislation, immigration, and politics.
